Mark Emerson Retires

Mark Emerson, data manager for the Global Early Adolescent Study, has spent the last 35 years of his career as a senior research associate, co-investigator, project coordinator, analyst, and data manager at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Much of his work over the years has focused on adolescents.

Mark has been involved in domestic studies on teen pregnancy prevention programs, sex-education in schools, school family planning clinics, effects of abortions, child sex abuse, intention to conceive, subsequent pregnancy risk following negative pregnancy tests, secondhand smoke and nicotine dependence, patients’ understanding of early-phase clinical trials, and union status and risk behavior. His international work includes single visit cervical cancer screening and cryo-treatment, drinking and risky behavior, postpartum family planning, factors affecting medical staff turnover, smoking and drinking among migrants, suicidal thoughts and attempts, the influence of external contact on traditional beliefs, and levels of sexual knowledge, attitudes and behaviors across cultures.
